When planning a safari in Tanzania you have a big choice to make: You can opt for the relatively sanitised, secure world of permanent lodges (nothing wrong with that!) or you can opt for a real adventure: tracking the ever changing migration route from the base of a mobile tented camp, the way safari was meant to be.
We devised this itinerary to suit the adventurous minded. You'll be hopping from tented camp to tented camp, which are moved several times each season to stay close to the migration routes and keep you close to the action.
This journey offers an up-close encounter with nature, staying in tented camps and witnessing the Great Migration in one of the world’s most iconic wildlife spectacles.

Welcome to Tanzania! Upon your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, our team will be there to greet you and transfer you to your peaceful accommodation just outside Arusha. Once checked in, you’ll have the rest of the day to relax and recover from your journey. Take this opportunity to unwind and enjoy the tranquility before your exciting migration safari begins the next day. You’ll be staying at the serene Kahawa House, located on the outskirts of Arusha, providing the perfect place to rest and prepare for the adventure ahead. Dinner will be served at the lodge, and you'll have time to enjoy your first evening in Tanzania.
We’ll begin your safari with a relaxed start, picking you up from your accommodation in Arusha and setting off in your private safari vehicle towards Tarangire National Park. After about a two-hour drive, we’ll arrive around midday and head straight into the park for a thrilling game drive. We’ll stop for a picnic lunch at a scenic spot within the park, giving you time to soak in the beauty of the landscape and wildlife. In the afternoon, we’ll continue exploring before heading to your accommodation for the night in the Tarangire area. Relax and reflect on your day as you unwind in the tranquil surroundings. During your time in Tarangire, expect to see an impressive range of wildlife including elephants, zebras, giraffes, and wildebeest, as well as lions and hyenas. If you're lucky, a leopard or cheetah may appear in the distance. The iconic baobab trees and the Tarangire River, a crucial water source, make for a stunning backdrop during this remarkable wildlife experience.
After checking out of the Lake Burunge lodge, we’ll head south towards Lake Manyara National Park for a day filled with exploration. As we journey through the park, we’ll take in the stunning and varied landscapes, from lush woodlands to open plains, pausing for a picnic lunch at one of the park’s scenic designated spots. Following lunch, we’ll continue our exploration before exiting through the northern gate and making our way to Karatu for the evening. Expect to encounter a diverse array of wildlife, including elephants, giraffes, buffalo, and zebras, as well as hippos near the lake and the rare tree-climbing lions that make Lake Manyara famous. You might also spot leopards or hyenas as they roam the park’s varied terrain, all set against the striking backdrop of the Rift Valley escarpment.
On day four, we’ll check out of the lodge in Karatu and embark on a scenic drive to the world-famous Serengeti. Along the way, we’ll pass through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, stopping briefly at the Crater Viewpoint for sweeping views of the caldera. After completing park formalities at the Naabi Hill gate, we’ll enjoy an exciting en-route game drive as we head north towards the Serengeti. By mid-to-late afternoon, we’ll reach the Northern Serengeti, near the Mara River, where we’ll do a short game drive before heading to our tented camp for the night. The area is renowned for its dramatic migration, so you’ll likely see wildebeest and zebras making their way across the Mara River, with crocodiles lurking in the waters and lions watching from the riverbanks. Other wildlife, including elephants, giraffes, and cheetahs, are commonly seen against the lush backdrop of the river.
The following morning, we start early to head toward the Mara River for a chance to witness one of nature’s greatest spectacles: the wildebeest migration crossing the crocodile-infested river. Our game drives will be focused around the river area, keeping us close to the action as the migration unfolds. As the day progresses, we’ll return to the camp for the evening. Once again, you’ll have the chance to see herds of wildebeest, zebras, and various predators, including crocodiles, lions, and cheetahs, all in the stunning Northern Serengeti landscape.
On day six, we’ll check out of our accommodation and head south towards the Central and Western Plains of the Serengeti. Our expert guide will lead us on a thrilling game drive across the endless plains, where we will track a wide variety of wildlife. From elephants and giraffes to lions and leopards, the Serengeti’s diverse fauna will be in full view as we explore some of the park's most iconic landscapes. By mid-to-late afternoon, we’ll arrive at our new accommodation, the Ang’ata Serengeti Camp, where you can relax with a sundowner and witness the sunset over the African plains.
The following morning, you can look forward to a flexible and leisurely day in the Serengeti. Depending on your preference, we can opt for an early morning game drive, followed by a Hot Bush Lunch, or relax in the camp before heading out for a later game drive and lunch. We can also arrange an early morning game drive with a light picnic breakfast if you wish to make the most of the day’s first light. Throughout the day, you’re likely to see more elephants, zebras, wildebeest, lions, and cheetahs, with occasional leopard sightings in the acacia trees.
On day eight, we’ll start with a leisurely morning, checking out of the Serengeti and embarking on one last game drive through the iconic landscape. Afterward, we’ll head through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, making our way to the town of Karatu, where you’ll spend the night surrounded by the rolling hills and lush greenery.
On our second day in Ngorongoro we’ll begin early as we head to the Crater itself. Descending into the crater, we’ll spend the day exploring its diverse wildlife, including elephants, buffalo, lions, and the elusive black rhino. With a picnic lunch lakeside inside the crater, we’ll continue our game drive, and towards the late afternoon, we’ll ascend the crater rim and return to your accommodation in Karatu. You’ll spend the night once again at the Ngorongoro Farm House, with meals including breakfast, a picnic lunch, and dinner.
Your Tanzania adventure comes to a close as we check out of the lodge and head towards Kilimanjaro International Airport. As we make the scenic drive through the Tanzanian landscape, you’ll have time to reflect on the unforgettable wildlife and landscapes you’ve encountered. Your safari team will bid you farewell with a heartfelt "Safari Njema" and wish you a safe journey home.

We used Napenda for our Tanzania safari based on a recommendation and are very glad we did. Everything exceeded our expectations. We planned the whole trip with Fatema and she was always so polite and always so helpful with expert advice. Our final plan was something we really enjoyed.
Not enough can be said about our guide Kelvin. He really took care of us through the whole journey and he had amazing eyes to spot wildlife even when we could not see them from our binoculars.
Everything from the special safari car to the hotel suggested and guide given to us was amazing.
I booked last minute with very little time to plan but Fatema did an incredible job putting it all together. One quick online call and she instantly understood my requirements. The plan to cover Ngorongoro and Serengeti was perfectly made.
Everything was just spot on from the vehicle to my fantastic guide Kelvin and even the water bottle and safari cap with my name on it.
Hope I can explore more of Tanzania in the future!
My friends and I had a wonderful 9 day safari tour with Napenda Adventures! Out group was 9 people. Our hotel accommodations were above our expectations and just beautiful. The food was awesome! Our safari guides Kelvin and Godfried were extremely friendly and knowledgable about all the animals, wildlife, plants , and landscapes! Khuzeima and Fatema were great about letting us know what to expect and kept in close contact the whole time. I wish I could hit rewind and do it all over again!
