Our safari was nothing short of spectacular! From start to finish, Paul with Fitzroy Travel delivered an unforgettable experience. They arranged three incredible locations, each perfectly chosen to maximize our chances of seeing a wide variety of wildlife. The camps they selected were run by the warmest, most genuine people, who provided us with exceptional food and service. Every detail was handled flawlessly. We’re already dreaming about our next adventure, and would definitely book with them again!
Tanzania's Northern Circuit
An expert-guided, small group tour
Travelling through the northern parks of Tanzania has always been among the most iconic of East African safaris, and the chance to do so on foot or by bicycle, as well as in a 4WD, provides an even more rewarding experience. By splitting time between Manyara, Ngorongoro and Serengeti, the journey covers a wide range of habitats and maximises the chances of being among the herds of the Great Migration, while staying focused on what matters most: time spent properly in the wild.
Why this trip?
Group safari tours in Tanzania are typically a ramshackle and low budget affair: big groups, basic camp sites, long days shuttling between parks, and wildlife sightings shared with the crowds. At Fitzroy Travel, we have gone in the opposite direction.
This is a small group journey, limited to a maximum of eight guests, designed to deliver the quality and depth of a luxury private safari while retaining the social ease and value of a shared experience. You'll enjoy exceptional guiding, carefully chosen luxury camps in key wildlife areas, and a journey paced for genuine immersion rather than box-ticking.
Our group journey offers the best of all worlds: lower cost than a private tour, but with high-end standards throughout, enjoyable company, and the reassurance of being fully escorted by one of Tanzania’s leading guides.

What you'll see and do
Day 1
A gentle arrival in Arusha
Arusha
After arriving at Kilimanjaro Airport, you will be met by your driver who will transfer you to the comfortable Rivertrees Country Inn. A comfortable lodge, with pleasant surroundings and a swimming pool, Rivertrees provides the perfect soft landing for your first night in Arusha, depending on your arrival time you may wish to explore nearby Arusha National Park.
Where you'll stay
Day 2 –3
Slow safari at Lake Manyara: on foot, by bike and by 4WD
Lake Manyara National Park
Departing early in the morning, we will travel east to Lake Manyara National Park, a spectacular region of the Great Rift Valley, that includes a large lake, wetland forest, acacia woodland and open grassland. Elephant, Cape buffalo, giraffe, impala and zebra roam the plains and frequent the waters of the lake and the Simba River, which are teeming with hippo.
Manyara Green Camp is set in the south of the park. This area gets very few visitors due to its distance from the main gate; most visitors to the park come only for the day. The camp is set on the shores of Lake Manyara, under some umbrella thorn acacia trees. It is not uncommon to see elephant, impala and baboon in camp whilst giraffe can be seen strolling by on the lakeshore.
Enjoy a lunch stop at Magara Waterfalls before travelling by bicycle to the gate of the park itself, where you will switch back to the game drive vehicle and continue to your camp for the evening. We will spend two nights in this area, exploring the park on foot and on game drives with your guide in 4WD vehicles.

Day 4
Into the Ngorongoro Highlands and crater wilderness
Ngorongoro Conservation Area
This morning we will leave our lakeside location, and head to the Ngorongoro Highlands, part of the wider Serengeti eco-system. On our way to this contrasting area of northern Tanzania there will be the opportunity to enjoy a walk along an elevated walkway through the canopy of the forest, offering a very different perspective of this unique landscape.
The camp is located in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area but set away from the busier rim area providing ultimate tranquillity. This is a semi-permanent exclusive site with no platforms or permanent plumbing as to limit the impact on the environment. The camp has a close and long standing relationship with the local Mysigio Maasai Tribe which allows the opportunity to authentically interact with to Maasai directly from the camp.

Day 5
Ngorongoro Crater floor and the fertile highlands of Karatu
Karatu
Another early start this morning, as we climb the side of Ngorongoro Crater and descend into the crater floor itself. This famous geological feature of The Great Rift Valley, teems with life thanks to the nutrient rich volcanic soil in the area. With resident year-round wildlife such as lion, elephant, zebra and even rhino, Ngorongoro Crater is one of the most celebrated single wildlife areas in Africa, and with good reason.
After a lunch on the crater floor itself, we will continue to Karatu for the evening. Karatu is located on the slopes on the Ngorongoro Highlands and will be our base for one night before travelling the following morning by light aircraft into Serengeti National Park.

Day 6 –8
Deep Serengeti and the Great Migration
Serengeti National Park
This morning after a hearty breakfast in Karatu we will make our way to the airstrip at Lake Manyara before then flying into Serengeti National Park itself. Our intention during our stay here is to drive deep into the heart of Serengeti’s eco-system, close to the border with Kenya’s Maasai Mara and join the the herds of wildebeest as they make their way north in search of the grazing that drives their annual migratory routes. A wildlife spectacle like no other on Earth.
Our camp, Green Camp, is a true mobile camp in every sense. As with many of the mobile operations in this part of Tanzania it travels in anticipation of the Great Migration, spending half the year in the south of the park and the other in the north, in the Naabi Hills area. The tents themselves are simple by design, fully equipped with en-suite bathroom facilities and double or twin beds.
We will spend most of the day in 4WD safari vehicles, which allow us a greater proximity to the wildlife of Serengeti. This is partly for safety, but also due to wildlife behaviour as they do not see the vehicle as a threat, sometimes even using it to provide shade from the heat of the mid-day sun.

Day 9
Departure from Arusha
Arusha
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast before a short flight back to Arusha. Arriving back in Arusha in the early afternoon, there will be a day room available if you have a later flight departures so as to avoid a lengthy wait in the airport.

I wanted the trip of a lifetime in Kenya and Tanzania and Paul at Fitzroy Travel organised the entire thing in the most superb fashion! I had a bucket list of places I wanted to see but specifically Lamu, Tsavo and Watamu in Kenya and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and Serengeti in Tanzania. Paul finessed all the timings perfectly so that I would get to see some of the Great Migration as well. My safari guide in Tanzania was truly amazing - very knowledgeable and also great fun! It was like being on holiday with a friend. The accommodation was top-notch - very comfortable and always incredibly welcoming. I loved every single minute of this trip.

Fitzroy was excellent - having never been to Kenya before, we really appreciated them sorting everything from point A to point B. The hotels and lodges they booked on our behalf were all incredible - each with their own unique character - and the hospitality could not have been better throughout. Amazing food, amazing guides, and the kindest people. I would highly recommend to anyone travelling to Kenya, particularly if it's your first time.

Our trip to Rwanda and Tanzania was incredible because of the attention to detail that Paul with Fitzroy Travel put into the planning of it. From our ease of transportation getting around to our incredible accommodations, my expectations were surpassed each day. We were able to time the migration of the animals perfectly. It was the trip of a lifetime!
