Our safari was nothing short of spectacular! From start to finish, Paul with Fitzroy Travel delivered an unforgettable experience. They arranged three incredible locations, each perfectly chosen to maximize our chances of seeing a wide variety of wildlife. The camps they selected were run by the warmest, most genuine people, who provided us with exceptional food and service. Every detail was handled flawlessly. We’re already dreaming about our next adventure, and would definitely book with them again!
Kenya’s Quiet Corners
Laikipia private conservancies and the Swahili coast
Most Kenya safaris revolve around the Masai Mara. We recommend going the other way.
Fitzroy Travel's Paul Callcutt has spent years building access to Laikipia's private conservancies - arguably Kenya's greatest conservation success story - where walking safaris, cycling and night drives are possible in ways the national parks don't allow, and where the ratio of wildlife to vehicles tells a very different story to the Mara.
This 12-day private journey moves through little-visited northern conservancies and time on a working farm in Laikipia, before finishing on the Swahili coast at Lamu. The focus is on depth over distance: enough time in each place for the experience to settle rather than rush on.

This is a customisable trip
Use the following itinerary for inspiration. Remember: all days, hotels and activities can be altered to suit your requirements. A Fitzroy Travel travel specialist will be happy to advise.
Day 1 –2
Arrival to Nairobi
Nairobi
You are met on arrival in Nairobi and transferred to Sheba’s Secret Garden, a private house set in the leafy Karen suburb. This is a deliberately soft start to the journey, allowing time to recover from international travel and ease into East Africa at an unhurried pace. While based here, there is the option to explore Nairobi National Park, visit conservation projects such as the Giraffe Centre or Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, or simply enjoy the gardens, food and atmosphere of the house. The focus is comfort, privacy and a sense of being welcomed rather than rushed.
Featured Accommodation
Day 3 –5
Explore the Lolldaiga Hills
Laikipia
A light aircraft flight takes you north to Laikipia, followed by a short road transfer into the private Lolldaiga Hills Conservancy. You stay at Safari Series, an owner-managed tented camp set within 49,000 acres of varied wilderness. The landscape here shifts between cedar forest, rocky outcrops and open plains, with Mount Kenya dominating the horizon. Activities are flexible and privately guided, ranging from game drives and walking safaris to fly camping, night drives and time with conservation teams. Wildlife encounters can include elephants, big cats and rarer northern species, with the emphasis on freedom of movement, depth of experience and time away from busy safari circuits.
Featured Accommodation
Day 6 –8
Olepangi Farm – Slow Living in Laikipia
Laikipia
A short road journey brings you to Olepangi Farm, where you stay in a private two-bedroom cottage on a working farm. This stage slows the pace of the journey, focusing on walking, horse riding, swimming and time spent on the land itself. There is the option to visit nearby conservancies such as Ol Pejeta, Solio or Ngare Ndare Forest, alongside cultural experiences including guided community walks that offer insight into local life and history.
Featured Accommodation
Day 9 –11
Indian Ocean Calm on the Swahili Coast
Lamu Island
A private charter flight takes you to the Lamu Archipelago, followed by a boat transfer to Chuchungi House, a fully staffed private beach house. Time here is intentionally unstructured, with days shaped by the ocean and the weather. Activities can include swimming, snorkelling, dhow sailing, paddleboarding and visits to Lamu Old Town or Shela, balancing coastal relaxation with Swahili culture and history.

Day 12
Return to Nairobi
Nairobi
You return to Nairobi by scheduled flight and transfer back to Sheba’s Secret Garden for day use ahead of your international departure. This provides space to rest, refresh and regroup after the coast before flying home.

I wanted the trip of a lifetime in Kenya and Tanzania and Paul at Fitzroy Travel organised the entire thing in the most superb fashion! I had a bucket list of places I wanted to see but specifically Lamu, Tsavo and Watamu in Kenya and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and Serengeti in Tanzania. Paul finessed all the timings perfectly so that I would get to see some of the Great Migration as well. My safari guide in Tanzania was truly amazing - very knowledgeable and also great fun! It was like being on holiday with a friend. The accommodation was top-notch - very comfortable and always incredibly welcoming. I loved every single minute of this trip.

Fitzroy was excellent - having never been to Kenya before, we really appreciated them sorting everything from point A to point B. The hotels and lodges they booked on our behalf were all incredible - each with their own unique character - and the hospitality could not have been better throughout. Amazing food, amazing guides, and the kindest people. I would highly recommend to anyone travelling to Kenya, particularly if it's your first time.

Our trip to Rwanda and Tanzania was incredible because of the attention to detail that Paul with Fitzroy Travel put into the planning of it. From our ease of transportation getting around to our incredible accommodations, my expectations were surpassed each day. We were able to time the migration of the animals perfectly. It was the trip of a lifetime!
