Ala-Kol Lake Trekking Tour
Trek the most scenic mountain terrain in Kyrgyzstan
The Ala Kol hike is a classic Kyrgyzstan trek which winds through some of the most stunning mountain terrain anywhere in Central Asia.
You'll traverse dramatic gorges, hike to the breathtaking Ala Kol (Ala-Kul) Lake, and camp under starry skies in remote valleys. Along the way, experience the warmth of nomadic culture, explore hidden waterfalls, and soak in Altyn-Arashan’s natural hot springs.
Trip notes
This is a fully escorted and guided trekking tour. You'll be accompanied with a trekking guide, a full porter team, and a camp cook to prepare three full meals per day.
This itinerary begins and ends in either Bishkek or Karakol with no rest or warm-up days. We can organise an extended itinerary with additional rest days, or combining this route with any other treks in the region. Contact us for more details.

What you'll see and do
Day 1
Bishkek – Karakol by southern side of Issyk-Kul Lake
Karakol
Meeting in Bishkek and drive to Karakol to Skazka canyon (Fare tale), amazing canyon with red stone formation. Afternoon arrival to Kokjayk pasture (Valley of Flowers) in Djety – Oguz Gorge by nickname as Switzerland thanks to beautiful fir, junipers, and birch tree forests covered valley. Djety-Oguz Gorge valley with seven red stones rock formation where you can see “Broken Heart and Seven Bulls mountains”.
Hiking 1,5-2 hours to the waterfall hidden in mountain.
Overnight at the hotel.

Day 2
Karakol valley - Kurgak Tor gorge - "Sirota"
Kurgak Tor Gorge
Breakfast. Transfer to Karakol gorge until the first bridge, which is the next gorge from Djety-Oguz valley, where trekking starts until “Sirota” hut by Kurgaktor gorge.
Trekking time: 6-7 hrs.
Dinner and overnight is in tent camp at 2500 m.

Day 3
Sirota-Ala-Kol (3 800 m) - Keldike gorge
Ala-Kol
After breakfast, continue trekking to Ala-Kul Lake (3532m). The ascent is enough steep but not long. Trek up to the Ala-Kul valley through fir tree forest. Ascent from Sirota hut to the lake takes approximately 2-3 hours. The lake is 2.3 km wide and 700 meters across, surrounded by peaks and glaciers, you will have an amazing view of Terskey Ala-Too Mountain peaks chain.
Dinner and camping in Keldike gorge (3200 m) in the tent.

Day 4
Kelgike valley–Altyn-Arashan valley – Karakol
Altyn Arashan Valley
After breakfast, continue trekking to Altyn-Arashan valley through Keldike gorge, which takes 3 hrs. Extremely picturesque views of Altyn Arashan attract large number of tourists and one of the most popular trekking places for adventure lovers and it is famous for hot springs. You will have an opportunity to bath in the pool with radon water. Lunch in Altyn-Arashan guesthouse.
Afternoon meeting with driver and drive to Karakol

Day 5
Karakol – Bishkek along north Issyk-Kul Lake
Karakol
After breakfast we drive to Bishkek along northern side of Issyk-Kul Lake. On the way drive to the most beautiful gorges of the lake named Grigorievskoye and Semenovskoye in northern side of the Issyk-Kul Lake. These two picturesque gorges are connected at the end. It means you will start driving in at one gorge and will drive out through the other one!

The views were amazing. Kyrgyzstan is a virgin country to explore. Our guide - driver Erkin was marvellous. He attended to all our needs and has become my friend at the end of our journey.
