As I have mentioned previously, GoExplore Safaris went out of their way to accommodate us without any issues! Their knowledge and support was nothing short of brilliant!! The attention to detail was incredible. Thank you Brian, definitely will recommend especially if you are an avid birder. Thank you
Classic Uganda Primate Expedition
Six days in Uganda's finest primate forests
Most Uganda safari itineraries start and end with gorilla trekking. That's understandable - but it undersells the country significantly.
We recommend GoExplore Safaris because founder Brian and his team know Uganda's primate forests the way only locals can: which chimpanzee communities in Kibale are most active, how to read Bwindi's terrain, and how to build a circuit that does justice to both experiences rather than treating one as an afterthought.
This six-day private expedition combines chimpanzee trekking in Kibale Forest - one of East Africa's most important primate habitats, home to around thirteen species - with mountain gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, where roughly half the world's remaining mountain gorillas live. The terrain is steep and the forests are wild. The hour with the gorillas tends to stay with you.
The itinerary below is a starting point: accommodations can be adjusted to suit all budgets and extensions can be arranged to include Big Five game drives, adventure treks and hikes, and much more. Get in touch to discuss your preferences.

What you'll see and do
This is a customisable trip
Use the following itinerary for inspiration. Remember: all days, hotels and activities can be altered to suit your requirements. A GoExplore Safaris travel specialist will be happy to advise.
Day 1
Entebbe
Entebbe
The tour begins in Entebbe, where guests are met on arrival and transferred to the hotel. Entebbe sits on the northern shore of Lake Victoria and serves as the practical starting point for Uganda's western park circuit. This first night is an arrival stay; the drive toward Kibale begins after breakfast the following morning.
Accommodation: Hotel Number 5
Day 2 –3
Kibale National Park
Kibale Forest National Park
The drive west from Entebbe passes through verdant countryside and rolling hills, with the option to stop at one of the tea plantations along the route to see how the crop is grown and processed. Kibale Forest is one of Africa's most significant primate habitats, supporting around 13 species, with chimpanzees the most frequently encountered. After a briefing at park headquarters, the trek begins at around 8am. Chimps are typically located by following their pant-hooting calls through the forest; the tracking itself takes two to three hours. Alongside chimpanzees, you may encounter red-tailed monkeys, grey-cheeked mangabeys, L'Hoest's monkeys, guereza colobus, and olive baboons. On your second morning, the afternoon is given over to a guided walk in the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary on the edge of the forest - a rich site for birds and a chance to meet local people and learn something of the area's cultural life. Alternatively, the crater lakes region nearby offers a striking change of scenery.
Accommodation: Ndali Lodge
Day 4 –5
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
The drive south passes Lake Bunyonyi, one of Uganda's most scenic lakes, with time for a boat ride to explore the surrounding islands and birdlife if the schedule allows. Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to roughly half the world's remaining mountain gorillas. After a briefing at park headquarters on the morning of the trek, guides lead you into the forest to locate a habituated family group. Duration depends entirely on where the gorillas have moved: it can be as short as two hours or stretch to a full day. The terrain is steep and frequently muddy; a walking stick is strongly advisable. Once the group is found, you spend one hour with them, close enough to observe feeding, social interaction, and the younger animals at play. Trekking certificates are collected at the park headquarters on the return.
Accommodation: Nkuringo Gorilla Lodge
Day 6
Entebbe
Entebbe
The final morning involves a transfer to Kisoro for the flight back to Entebbe, where a day room is available before the onward international departure.
Accommodation: Hotel Number 5 (day room)

Go Explore gave us the greatest experience we have had in Uganda. Perfect in guiding us around and very flexible! We managed to even see the gorillas, though it was not initally planned.

The Go Explore Experience we had in Uganda was incredible. Brian, and our driver Vincent, were both fantastic, professional and always on time. We felt well taken care of the whole time. The gorilla trekking and golden monkey trekking were some amazing sites to behold. The lodges we stayed at were extremely comfortable and all had really great food as well. I would highly recommend this company to all friends and family.
