Yorkshire Dales National Park
Welcome to Yorkshire Dales National Park
The insider's travel guide to Yorkshire Dales National ParkThe Yorkshire Dales is a classic north-English landscape of rolling hills, stone villages and patchwork fields. This is England from a bygone era; of dry stone walls and cosy pubs, sheep blocking country lanes, and the setting for All Creatures Great And Small (although the barns are now more likely to be holiday rentals than working farms.)
For long distance walks there's the Pennine Way snaking up towards the Lake District, the Dales Way, the Coast to Coast Path, plus various others. And for centre-based walking holidays there's stunning scenery around Swaledale and Wharfedale.
Stone villages and homesteads are scattered throughout the dales with popular bases being Hawes, Pateley Bridge and Middleham. Otters, hares and hedgehogs can be spotted in the dales as well as the occasional red squirrel.
