I truly cannot say enough great things about the Death Valley Basecamp Tour with Wildland Trekking. I did the basecamp trip at the end of January and everything about this whole experience was absolutely perfect and highly professional. The information provided prior to the trip was great and gave me plenty of information to know how to pack and what to expect. Our guides, Samantha and Holly were amazing! They were fun, patient, and extremely knowledgeable. They were right there any time anyone was struggling in any way – whether it was my embarrassing fear of heights, someone was falling behind, or someone needing a little extra help… they were both incredibly attentive and encouraging every step of the way (sometimes literally). They really tried to make sure we all had a great experience.
Death Valley is beautiful! I had no idea there was that much diversity there. We did a variety of hikes (slot canyon, salt flats, meteor crater, badlands, old mine, waterfall) and they were challenging, without being overly so. The stars at night around the campfire were also beautiful.
As far as the food – it was OUTSTANDING! It definitely exceeded my expectations – it was not typical camp food. It was pure gourmet and I’m pretty sure I gained weight! Samantha and Holly were very careful to note the food preferences we listed prior to the trip and I’m sure for six people, that’s not always easy.
Another thing to mention – I was a little nervous being a solo female signing up and going on a trip with people I didn’t know. However, this was one of the best things I’ve done in a long time. I met some really incredible people who were also solo travelers, felt completely safe, and had SO much fun!!
This was my first trip with Wildland Trekking and I am absolutely 100% looking forward to planning another trip with them.
