Thailand is a paradise for families and kids and there's so much more to the country than the standard island and beach itineraries. We've devised this route to get you off the well-trodden tourist trail and into the wilder corners of this beautiful country.

You'll spend a couple of days finding your feet in Bangkok before heading south to a string of glorious national parks where action and adventure await. Wrap up your trip with some beach downtime at one of our favourite coastal hideaways, far removed from the rowdy party scene you might be expecting.

Customise this trip!

The following is our suggested itinerary and it can be fully customised to suit your needs: add on a visit to Chiang Mai in the north or spend longer island hopping down south, it's all easy in Thailand. Contact us now to discuss your preferences.

Detailed itinerary

What you'll see and do

This is a customisable trip

Use the following itinerary for inspiration. Remember: all days, hotels and activities can be altered to suit your requirements. A Yonder Travel travel specialist will be happy to advise.

Arrival and decompress in Bangkok

Our driver will greet you at the airport and whisk you through this frenetic city to your hotel where you can relax and decompress. But as inviting as the cocoon of your hotel is, Bangkok is a city of wonders and they're waiting to be discovered! You'll enjoy a private guided tour of the Grand Palace, go on a longtail boat adventure on the river and have time to explore Bangkok’s maze of markets and street stalls.

Khao Yai National Park

A three-hour drive northeast from Bangkok, Thailand’s oldest national park is 2,168 square-km of mountainous jungle which has UNESCO Natural World Heritage status. Khao Yai means Big Mountain and its peaks reach up to 1,351 metres. Several viewpoints, such as Pha Diao Dai, are accessible by road. The largest waterfall is the 150-metre Haew Narok, which is reached via a long, steep stairway. You might also recognise the 20-metre Haew Suwat, made famous by Leonardo DiCaprio in The Beach.

The teeming wildlife includes elephants and wrinkle-lipped bats, which make a fabulous spectacle each evening as they wake up and swarm out into the sunset. You'll take guided hikes to the falls and trek through the park, and cool off at night in your lodge's pool.

Onwards to Khao Sok National Park

After breakfast in your lodge you'll make the return journey to Bangkok to meet the sleeper train south to your next destination: Khao Sok National Park via Surat Thani. (Option to fly from Bangkok to Surat Thani.)

One of Thailand's most popular nature reserve, Khao Sok is home to 738-sq-km of virgin lowland jungle, towering limestone karsts, waterfalls, caves and the dazzling man-made Cheow Lan Lake. Also known as Ratchaprapha, the lake was formed in the 1980s by one dam and countless vertical limestone castles sculpted by nature's hand. The park is home to a number of rare species, including tigers, gibbons, hornbill birds, a variety of orchids and the giant parasitic Rafflesia flower.

While here you'll explore the park on guided hikes to spot the wildlife, kayaking trips on the water, and simply relaxing in your lodge surrounded by the sounds of nature in the forest.

Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park

After all this action you'll be ready for some downtime at the beach, and so you'll make the return trip to Surat Thani for the train north to Hua Hin.

Hua Hin itself is a well-developed, sometimes noisy city, but it's very close to Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park where you'll find quiet beaches, magnificent limestone caves and a wetland rich in birdlife. And within striking distance are the refreshing Huai Yang waterfall and the Kui Buri National Park, the best place in Thailand to spot elephants in the wild.

This suggested itinerary finishes with a drive back to Bangkok for your return flight, but don't let that stop you! This route can be customised as far as your imagination will allow – contact us now to discuss your preferences!

We’ve just returned from a wonderful holiday. Everything was meticulously planned and the holiday was better than we could have hoped for. All of the recommendations were spot on and it’s clear our wishes were fully understood during the planning phase. The in-depth knowledge of the hotels and destinations was remarkable. We will be recommending Yonder to everyone we know.

Travelled to India with Yonder in June this year and had the most incredible time!

We wanted to see both the main tourist attractions in India, but also to see a more authentic side of India and Yonder made it happen, taking us to places we would have never considered without their suggestions.

From beginning to end, Yonder were great and made our trip to India so special. We can’t recommend them enough

Nico our thoroughly professional, knowledgeable and extremely personable travel expert discussed with us our desires for our trip as well as our likes and our dislikes, he was then able to organise an itinerary for us. Nico made suggestions to us that we would never have been aware of had we just attempted to plan the trip ourselves such as staying in the most luxurious and delightful ‘tent’ we have ever stayed in positioned beside a beautiful reservoir teeming with glorious wildlife.

Upon writing this we are due to go on our third holiday booked with Yonder, and we know that when we return we will be planning our fourth. We cannot recommend Yonder travel highly enough, they are without doubt an excellent company and embrace what seems like a lost philosophy of true care and attention!

From the time we first contacted them to when we arrived back from our holiday, Yonder delivered everything and more they promised. The trip they planned for us was perfect and confirmed their detailed knowledge of the country and places we visited. When a small hiccup occurred it only took a call to them for it to be sorted while we had dinner at one of the fantastic hotels they chose for us. They really did give the personal supported service throughout our trip that so many other firms just claim. We now have some fabulous memories to keep us going till we plan our next trip with them.
