Our guide, Brett, was wonderful. We saw three koalas in their natural habitat in the bush. One came down right in front of us and crossed the road! The guide provided a gourmet picnic lunch with Lamington for dessert. He also made hot tea with Lemon Eucalyptus leaves. Next we went to a different refuge and saw lots of kangaroos in their natural habitat. Perfect day.

Echidna Walkabout
Unique wildlife & conservation experiences

Janine Duffy and Roger Smith founded Echidna Walkabout in 1993, providing high quality nature and wildlife experiences for small groups of international and domestic travellers in southeastern Australia and the Northern Territory.
From Echidna's earliest days, our driving principle has always been positive conservation. We believe that people protect what they know, and what they love. So we set out to create a style of tourism that not only minimises negative effects on the environment, but positively creates a sense of wonder, an understanding, and a power to change for the better.
Echidna Walkabout’s wildlife guides are recognised as some of the best in Australia. Our guide training program ensures that all guides have an in-depth knowledge of the wildlife and environments you will see. They are friendly, knowledgeable and passionate about wildlife – some of them have over 20 years experience working with wild animals, several are volunteer wildlife carers and rescuers and most have travelled extensively throughout Australia and the world. Many hours of wildlife research work precede the tour to ensure that you see and learn about native wildlife in its natural environment.
Echidna Walkabout organises everything for you on our fully guided and catered journeys. Prices include everything except personal items and alcoholic drinks.

We had a fabulous day with Sam, our knowledgeable and fun guide who went the extra mile to ensure we saw 7 koalas in their natural habitat! We also had a large mob of kangaroos hop by at close proximity not once but twice! A fantastic tour benefitting a great cause that I highly recommend!

A great introduction to Australian wildlife. Much better to see Koalas and Kangaroos in the wild rather than in zoos, led by a very knowledgeable guide.

This was the only tour we took out of Melbourne recently and it was fantastic. We were picked up right on time. Our total group was only 5 people with a great guide Martin. We went to two different parks- You Yangs and then Serandip. Martin was in constant contact with other guides/researchers in the area so that he could take us to the best places to spot koalas. Because the researchers have been studying these koalas for years, Martin was able to tell us the name, age and gender of each one we saw and also could even tell us how they were related to each other. He was also able to point out and name many other birds and animals we saw on the tour. The tour consisted of mostly van riding with short hikes in various locations. We met another group at a picnic spot for lunch and the food provided was delicious and came with a history of some of the settlers in the area. At the second stop we were able to see mobs of kangaroos and emus and get fairly close to them. It was a marvellous day!
