Arrival to George & transfer to Wilderness

After your arrival at the airport in George, your Garden Route adventure begins. You will be greeted by your transfer driver and taken to the Mes Amis Guest House in Wilderness. After your check-in you will have time to rest and relax. The guest house offers private access to the sandy beach of Wilderness and you are welcome to go on an extensive beach walk in the afternoon. Together with your guide and fellow travellers, you will dine at a restaurant with magnificent views of the Indian Ocean (optional).

Your second day is for you to enjoy at leisure. Seize the opportunity to take another stroll along the lovely beach or go hiking along the Half Collared Kingfisher Trail. Your guide will gladly accompany you. The trail leads you through the dense forest of the Wilderness National Park to a beautiful waterfall. Take a refreshing dip in the cool water before heading back. Alternatively, you can of course just sit back and unwind!

Make yourself comfortable at the beach or enjoy the stunning panoramic views from your veranda over the sea. With a bit of luck, you might be able to observe dolphins playing in the water.

Knysna & Storms River

You set off to Knysna after breakfast. Together with your guide, you will explore this charming town nestled on the banks of a beautiful lagoon. Two impressive sea cliffs, the Knysna Heads, guard the entrance to the tranquil lagoon from the surging ocean. A view point on the East Head offers you panoramic vistas of Knysna, its lagoon and the Indian Ocean. You then continue your journey and drive via Nature’s Valley to the Tsistikamma National Park.

Whether you choose to hike along the first leg of the Otter Trail, South Africa’s most famous hiking trail, or cross the Storms River Mouth on the popular suspension bridge – spectacular views are guaranteed! Enjoy the impressive panorama of the precipitous coastline and the strong contrast of the vivid green land with the deep blue sea. In the late afternoon, you will finally reach the At the Woods Guest House.

Oudtshoorn

After a hearty breakfast, you leave the coast behind. You drive on the scenic Route 62 to Oudtshoorn in the Little Karoo, arriving around midday. In the afternoon, you will visit the famous Cango Caves. Parts of this extensive cave system were inhabited by the San more than 10,000 years ago. Today, you can discover the caves on different tours and admire the towering dripstone formations.

Hermanus

Spending the morning in Oudtshoorn, you'll see why it is famous for ostrich farming. During a farm tour in the morning, you will learn interesting details about these huge birds as well as the trade of ostrich products.

Afterward, you continue through beautiful landscapes to Hermanus, located on the so-called Cape Whale Coast. Between the months of June and November, Hermanus is world-renowned for incredible whale-watching opportunities. But even outside of whale season, this quaint former fishing village is well worth a visit. You will spend the night at the Nantucket Guest House.

Where you'll stay
Stellenbosch

Spend the morning in Hermanus. During whale season, take a walk along the Cliff Path in the morning. The views of Walker Bay are truly amazing and the cliffs offer the perfect spot to watch the gentle giants from land. Depending on the swell, you can alternatively choose to go on a whale-watching boat trip to get even closer to these incredible creatures (optional).

You then make your way to South Africa’s most famous wine region around Stellenbosch. Travelling along the picturesque coast, you will stop en route to visit a colony of African Penguins. Here you will have the chance to observe these little fellows as they go about their daily activities. Arriving in Stellenbosch, you first explore this lovely town before heading to a beautifully located wine farm. During a wine tasting you can enjoy their best wines which have matured beautifully. In the evening, you dine at a fine restaurant (optional). Your home for tonight is the historical Oude Werf Hotel.

Where you'll stay
Noordhoek

Today starts with a visit to a typical Cape farm which is idyllically located at the foot of the Helderberg Mountain. After the past days of long driving, this is your chance to be more active. Take a walk to a viewpoint to enjoy splendid views over the entire False Bay to Table Mountain. On a clear day, you might even see Cape Point in the far distance. At lunchtime, you need to get ready to be surprised! After lunch, you make your way along the scenic coastline to the Cape Peninsula.

The quiet and quaint village of Noordhoek is renowned for its miles of sandy beach, one of the longest and most beautiful beaches in the Cape. Strolling along the beach is a must!

Where you'll stay
Departure day

After breakfast, you will embark on a tour to the Cape of Good Hope. Back in the day, the rugged rocks and sheer cliffs towering above the stormy sea were the sailors’ first sight of land after their long journey from Europe. Take in the panoramic views from the famous viewing platform around the base of the old lighthouse at Cape Point and feel the wind in your hair. In the late afternoon, your guide will take you to the centre of Cape Town. Having a remarkable journey behind you, it’s time to say goodbye. See you again soon in South Africa!

What are the different ways I can pay?

Once you have completed a booking form, we will send you a secure link to pay using a debit or credit card. Note that we do not accept AMEX.

For all international card payments there is a surcharge of 2.5% applied at the time of payment.

You can also pay by bank transfer, details of which can be provided on request, and whilst we do not impose any charges for this payment method, your bank may decide to charge you for any transfers, and these must be covered by you.

How should I bring my spending money?

Travellers cheques are not recommended but if you don’t wish to bring too much cash, you can obtain a multi-currency cash passport which will allow you to pre-load the currencies you will likely need such as US$ and ZAR and use it like a debit card whilst you are travelling. Most of these do not charge you to use them abroad, even when withdrawing from and ATM, but do check with your provider. We LOVE Revolut for its low fees, great app, and ease of use.

For certain countries like Zimbabwe we would recommend bringing low denominations of US$ cash ensuring you have clean, untorn bills as it can sometimes be difficult to withdraw from the ATMs. The hotels do accept credit cards as do the activity suppliers if you don’t want to carry too much.

We will always let you know in advance what our recommendations are.

What people are saying about Take Me To Africa

We had the most incredible honeymoon and honestly can’t thank Sam enough for all of her planning and advice! From the beautiful accommodation to each activity, recommendation and transfer, everything was planned meticulously to make the most of every minute of the trip (eg. Visiting Vic Falls from the other side and visiting some highlights of the Panorama Route en route to the airport). Having met Sam in person, she completely understood what we were looking for in a honeymoon and created the most memorable, special trip we could have imagined. We were extremely impressed with the time and care that was taken in the planning process and the way that we managed to see so many different places in only a couple of weeks (Victoria Falls, safari in South Africa, beach break in Zanzibar and even some day trips across borders!). Sam even helped us postpone the trip twice (due to Covid restrictions) and couldn’t have been more helpful when we had questions. It was an absolute trip of a lifetime and we can’t recommend ‘Take Me To Africa’ more highly.

Fantastic trip. Due to COVID we had to keep postponing our holiday but communication with Sam was fantastic. The schedule put together was exactly what we were looking for and the trips/hotels/lodges were perfect.

Trip of a lifetime! My wife booked this after seeming them at a show in London. Having never been to Africa I really wasn't sure was to expect. It was also the first real group tour we'd ever been on. Right from landing at Victoria Falls and meeting our guide for the trip Sam, it was truly excellent. The Take me to Africa team are clearly very knowledge and every part of the trip had clearly been very carefully considered. All the hotels were excellent and all the locations really good. My favourite was the lodge in the private game reserve. Its the first time we have ever been on safari and it was truly magical. We had a really amazing trip of a lifetime so my thanks go out to Sam and all the people who helped us and looked after us along the way.

We decided to go for a safari in Africa for our honeymoon and have chosen Take me To Africa for a bespoken tour. Sam, who look after us, was extremely helpful, knowledge and she fully understands our needs. She organised a fantastic tour between Botswana, Zimbabwe and Zanzibar booking for us stunning accommodation and all the transfers needed. Everything absolutely perfect, from extra welcoming stuff, delicious food, beautiful atmosphere, honestly we could have asked for more. Even when our outbound was cancelled because of a technical problem, Sam was very efficient on resolving the situation and she made sure everything was re-arranged for us. I will definitely recommend Take me To Africa to anyone who would love an exclusive and special trip to Africa.
