This is a scheduled, guided group departure through the wilds of Namibia, limited to a maximum of seven guests, accompanied throughout by a specialist naturalist guide. The small group size allows for efficient travel days, clear interpretation in the field, and flexibility around timing without the constraints of larger departures.

Our journey is structured in four distinct stages: the central Namib dune system, the Atlantic coast around Walvis Bay and Swakopmund, the river-driven landscapes of Damaraland, and a final wildlife-focused section on the Etosha Heights Private Reserve.

Why this trip?

When you visit Namibia you usually have to choose between a self-drive tour with little guiding, or big group, low budget escorted tours designed to tick off the highlights rather than deepen understanding. The result: vast landscapes experienced quickly, deserts photographed rather than explored, and wildlife encounters left to chance rather than shaped by knowledge and time.

We take a different approach. Our journey is fully guided from start to finish and we stay inside the environments that matter. With just seven guests, you gain the freedom to start early, linger late, track wildlife with intent and understand the landscapes you’re moving through.

We combine the interactive, sociable nature and excellent value of a small group tour with the depth, access and interpretation more often associated with a luxury private safari.

Detailed itinerary

What you'll see and do

Arrival to Windhoek

The journey opens in Windhoek, giving you a calm and uncomplicated start before heading into Namibia’s interior. It’s a chance to meet the group, settle in after international travel and prepare for the long open landscapes to come.

Namib-Naukluft National Park: Sossusvlei and Deadvlei

Leaving Windhoek, you cross the Khomas Hochland and descend the Great Escarpment into the Namib, entering one of the oldest desert systems on Earth. Staying inside the national park allows early access to the dune corridor, where cooler mornings and long shadows reveal the structure of Sossusvlei and Deadvlei at their best. Time here is spent walking and climbing dunes, exploring Sesriem Canyon and absorbing the stillness of the desert, with afternoons left open to let the environment set the pace.

Swakopmund and the Skeleton Coast

The route continues northwest through canyon country before reaching the Atlantic coast. Two nights in Swakopmund offer a refreshing change of climate and rhythm. A full day is devoted to the marine environment of Walvis Bay, choosing between kayaking among seals or a boat cruise to view dolphins and coastal wildlife. Evenings are relaxed and spent in town, marking a complete shift in atmosphere from the desert interior.

Desert elephants of Damaraland

Turning inland again, you travel through the geological drama of the Brandberg region into the rugged landscapes of Damaraland. Here the focus is on tracking desert-adapted elephants along dry river systems and exploring the area’s striking rock formations and engravings, including Twyfelfontein. The pace is slower and more observational, shaped by wide horizons and wildlife that moves according to water, shade and time of day.

Where you'll stay
Etosha Heights Private Reserve

The final wildlife stage takes place on a private reserve bordering Etosha National Park. With morning and afternoon game drives, quiet time at the hide and flexible guiding, this section brings a stronger sense of continuity to wildlife viewing than the public park typically allows. Plains game, predators and passing elephant herds move through the reserve on their own terms, offering an unhurried final chapter to the safari.

Return to Windhoek

Returning south, the journey closes where it began. Windhoek offers a gentle last night to rest, repack and gather the threads of the trip before your international departure the following day.

I wanted the trip of a lifetime in Kenya and Tanzania and Paul at Fitzroy Travel organised the entire thing in the most superb fashion! I had a bucket list of places I wanted to see but specifically Lamu, Tsavo and Watamu in Kenya and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and Serengeti in Tanzania. Paul finessed all the timings perfectly so that I would get to see some of the Great Migration as well. My safari guide in Tanzania was truly amazing - very knowledgeable and also great fun! It was like being on holiday with a friend. The accommodation was top-notch - very comfortable and always incredibly welcoming. I loved every single minute of this trip.

Fitzroy was excellent - having never been to Kenya before, we really appreciated them sorting everything from point A to point B. The hotels and lodges they booked on our behalf were all incredible - each with their own unique character - and the hospitality could not have been better throughout. Amazing food, amazing guides, and the kindest people. I would highly recommend to anyone travelling to Kenya, particularly if it's your first time.
