I expected a challenging hike along the Inca trail, what I didn't expect was to have my world view changed by being plunged into the mystical aspects of the Incas. Rudi's in-depth knowledge of the ways of the Incas, and his passion for the mountains and the trail itself, transformed a hike into a spiritual experience. The weather was challenging, but Rudi's good spirits and the good care from his crew, not to mention the excellent food, made it the trip of a lifetime. Wow! It's hard to find the words to explain everything we went through. Unlike Kili and EBC, the Inca Trail seemed like just another hike until we found Evolution and their approach to trekking to Machu Picchu. They don’t treat this trek as a mere bucket list item for tourists; rather, they have transformed it into a pilgrimage, a ritual, an act of protest, and a catalyst for change. Rudi’s insights into history and Miguel’s mission to make the trail a truly sustainable destination allowed us to see the often hidden and unspoken ways in which tourism exerts a pervasive influence.
Don’t ask me about the trail's beauty, what you need to bring, or what we ate—Evolution will provide all that information ahead of time. Instead, ask me about how this hike transformed the way I will travel from now on. Almost every dollar we spend while traveling typically goes to big corporations, with only a tiny portion improving the lives of those doing the actual work on the ground to ensure you have a great trip. In our case, those people were the porters, and Evolution allocates up to 20 times more than their competitors for the well-being of their porters.

My partner and I did a lot of research before booking the 2-Day Short Inca Trail with Evolution. We ended up choosing them for their great offerings, sound ethics, and commitment to upholding the rights and wellbeing of porters and other staff on their treks.
Miguel was friendly and responsive right away to our inquiries and throughout process of organizing. Iris was very helpful when we visited their office in Cusco, and everything was well-coordinated along the way with opportunities for us to customize the experience.
Cesar was a wonderfully energetic guide who made sure we were comfortable and well taken care of. He had a great deal of knowledge to share about Inca history and legends, as well as local flora and fauna along our route. He made sure we were able to complete the additional Wayna Pikchu hike on Day 2, and followed up with us later on to ensure we made it safely to our AirBnB in Maras. Great guy!
We would highly recommend Evolution and their 2-Day Short Inca Trail experience to anyone considering a trek in the Peru.
