The western edge of the world’s largest desert dips into Morocco, just south of Marrakesh, and experiencing the madness of the city along with the tranquillity of the desert in one trip is an unforgettable experience. Start in the city, exploring the busy souks (markets) and sampling the street food, before heading out into the emptiness. Experience the peace and serenity with a guided desert trek, and bake traditional ‘sand bread’ with nomads in an improvised oven built into the sand. The trip can be extended for the even more energetic by heading into the Atlas Mountains for more hiking at either Ait Bougmez or the Amein Valley.
