Fly into Mangalore and head south along the length of Kerala on this two-week adventure. Start by spending a night at Bekal to explore Kerala's largest fort then choose a beach homestay at Kannur. As an alternative to the Alleppey waterways, take a boat trip along the lesser-known Valiyaparmba backwaters. Check out a theyyam performance in the area before travelling to Wayanad where you can stay on a plantation, go bamboo rafting at Kuruva Island, visit local toddy shops, see the Stone Age carvings at Edakkal caves and trek through the hills. Continue to Cheruthuruthy and visit Kerala Kalamandalam, an educational institution for 15 types of traditional performing arts. Travel to Kochi, stopping at the Muziris heritage precinct and Killimangalam mat weaving centre on the way. Spend a day in Kochi before taking a local ferry to Broadway Bazaar and wander through the market. Visit the hills of Munnar and Thekkady before ending in Kollam for an overnight houseboat trip along the Ashtamudi Backwaters.
