You’ll finish the trip with a short visit to the quaint town of Talkeenta, and a remarkable train ride back to Anchorage.

Tour itinerary

What you'll see and do

Anchorage to Denali National Park

You’ll be picked up bright and early in Anchorage before heading to Moraine Lake in the heart of Denali National Park via floatplane. The bush pilot will fly up Ruth Glacier and into the Great Gorge, where you’ll see the highest peak in North America. After landing in a small lake between Ruth and Tokositna Glaciers, you’ll set up camp and enjoy unobtrusive time in the wilderness.

Distance: 3 miles. Elevation gain: 1000'

Includes: lunch, dinner
The Alaskan Range glaciers

The bulk of the adventure includes more than 20 miles of hiking across the vast Alaskan landscape including open tundra, magnificent creeks and along the stunning Alaska Range glaciers. You’ll get to enjoy the unspoiled wilderness by camping near small lakes, drinking fresh water from the streams and hike on trails that haven’t been ruined by tourism. Keep your eyes open for Alaskan wildlife as you hike across one of the country’s most prolific parks.

Average daily distance: 5-7 miles. Average daily elevation gain: 1000-3000'

Includes: breakfast, lunch, dinner

Be prepared to integrate back to civilisation as your floatplane whisks you back to Talkeetna. But enjoy the flight as you’ll soar over beautiful bodies of water, down the Ruth Glacier and across most of the area you’ve spent the past three days exploring. After settling into Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge you’ll head downtown for dinner to enjoy some local Alaskan fare.

Includes: breakfast, lunch, dinner

Talkeetna to Anchorage

During your last day you’ll have some free time to explore Talkeetna -- been listed as a National Historic Site -- or join a guided activity, such as sport fishing. This gem of a town has a strong local arts and crafts scene including jewelry made with porcupine quills. The train for Anchorage boards mid-afternoon and will arrive three hours later.

Includes: breakfast, lunch

With literally thousands of nights camped in the Alaska wilderness in all seasons, Alaska Alpine Adventures have refined camp craft to a science. Expedition quality tents, included trekking poles, group-size tarp shelters, and only the best cooking equipment accompany each and every trip.
