Aquila Private Game Reserve
Aquila Private Game Reserve, named after the endangered black (Verreaux) eagle, is a 10,000-hectare conservancy established in 1999. Initially home to only a few antelope, the reserve now hosts the Big Five, numerous other large mammals, and diverse birdlife, thanks to successful animal reintroduction and conservation programmes.
Although Aquila may not offer a truly authentic African wilderness experience, it provides quality wildlife viewing with a high likelihood of spotting lions and other species. With a range of alternative activities, easy access for day trips from Cape Town, and upscale accommodation, the reserve remains a popular choice for visitors.
