The Menalon Trail in the historic Peloponnese region is a recently created 75km route winding between historic stone villages, gorges (of course), aromatic pine forests and ancient remains.
The route typically takes six to eight days to complete and is rated moderate in difficulty.
The journey begins in the traditional village of Stemnitsa and ends in Lagkadia. Along the route, you traverse rugged mountain terrain, lush valleys, beautiful river gorges, and pass serene Byzantine chapels, immersing you in Greece's natural and cultural richness. One of the trail's highlights is the Lousios Gorge, renowned for its monasteries that seem to hover precariously on the cliff edges. There are traditional guest houses for overnight stays throughout the trek, allowing trekkers to experience local hospitality and cuisine. The Menalon Trail, designed to bring economic and ecological benefits to the region, is also the first certified trail in Greece by the European Ramblers Association (ERA).
